The videos begin with things I know personally: a uniform I’ve practiced in, furniture I’ve lived with, a wooden panel I’ve restored, or a place I want to return to.動画の出発点は、自分で経験してきたことです。稽古で着た道着、ともに暮らしてきた家具、自ら修復した欄間、また訪れたい場所。
My connection to Japan has taken me from language study and living with a family near Tokyo to earning a third-degree black belt in Uechi ryu karate and spending decades teaching. Along the way, I began collecting Japanese objects—and learning from them.日本との関わりは、言葉の勉強や東京近郊の家庭での滞在から、上地流空手の三段取得、そして長年の指導へとつながりました。その間に、日本のものを集め、そこから学ぶようにもなりました。
There is still plenty I don’t know. That is part of the pleasure.まだ知らないことがたくさんあります。それも、この楽しみの一部です。
